Defender Adam Chicksen says he didn't have to think twice about returning to Priestfield from Brighton

Returning to Gillingham wasn’t a difficult decision to make for defender Adam Chicksen - when the Gills made an approach for the Brighton left-back he jumped at the chance.

He said: “It was the easiest decision I have made all season. I loved my time at the club last time. They are doing great and I just want to come in and help the lads.

“I saw the quality in the team last year and it was an easy decision for me.”

Chicksen played four times for the Gills last season, under Peter Taylor, before being recalled by the Seagulls after 28 days.

He was later loaned back out, joining Fleetwood Town.

It would have been a familiar journey for the 24-year-old as he made his Gills return at neighbouring town Blackpool. Unfortunately it wasn’t a winning comeback as Chicksen tasted defeat in a Gills shirt for the first time.

He is not surprised, though, by Gills' switch from relegation battlers to promotion chasers.

"Last season I said that the lads had quality and I knew that quality would come through," he said.

"For me, it was no surprise when I was looking at the league table at the start of the season and Gillingham were up there."
