Gillingham boss Justin Edinburgh says armchair fans can forget about a cup upset at Brackley Town

Gillingham manager Justin Edinburgh is determined to leave the TV audience disappointed on Wednesday night.

He knows many will be watching BT Sport’s live coverage of their FA Cup first round replay at Brackley Town expecting to see another giant-killing.

The Gills lost at Brackley on TV three years ago but Edinburgh’s team are beginning to hit form ahead of their trip to St James Park.

“We expect to win,” said Edinburgh. “That is not underestimating Brackley by any stretch of the imagination.

“They were leading here 2-0 and we know what they are capable of, but we know what the cameras are there for.

“We are fully aware of that, they are there for an upset and we have to make sure we are not going to be that.”

Since the original game, Edinburgh has more options to choose from, with several players recovering from injury. Baily Cargill has clearance from Bournemouth to play, while Bradley Garmston, Scott Wagstaff, Bradley Dack and Ryan Jackson are fit again.

The Gills are also playing with added confidence after back-to-back wins.

Edinburgh said: “We are certainly going into the Brackley game in a better frame of mind than we were when we played them here last week. What Saturday and Tuesday has given us is more confidence and more belief."

While the Gills will bank a guaranteed £33,750 in TV money on Wednesday there is also £18,000 up for grabs in prize money for the winner, who will face Blackpool next month in the second round.
