Peter Taylor admitted he contemplated taking goalscorer Cody McDonald off at half-time on Saturday.

The striker had missed a sitter just before the break and Taylor had plenty of other attacking options on the bench, including the returning Danny Kedwell.

His decision to stick with McDonald paid off, as he netted an 83rd-minute equaliser against Rochdale.

Taylor said: “I was tempted to bring him (Kedwell) on but had I brought on Danny I would have taken off Cody. In the end I thought I would keep Cody on the pitch.

“I was disappointed that he missed the chance first half. Cody should have scored and his touch, if he needed it, should have been a bit better to put it in the goal.

“I thought there were another couple of things he could have done slightly better.

“One thing is for sure, if you are a goalscorer sometimes you want them on the pitch.

“You could say he was lucky to be in the place he was (to score) but he has to be there and he took it well.”
