Assistant boss Peter Hawkins is delighted with Chatham's fighting spirit.

Relegation-threatened Chats were 2-0 down against Thamesmead last week before halving the deficit through Joe Bingham and levelling late on with a goal from Kieran McCann.

Hawkins said: “The lads are young and they are still learning, but the way they reacted on Saturday bodes well.

“It is a shame we couldn’t have ground out those results earlier on in the season when needed.

“To come back from 2-0 down showed character and fight. The lads rolled their sleeves up and got us back in the game. We got a point and we’re three unbeaten, which is where we want to be."

Chats turn their attentions to a long trek this weekend when they take on Norfolk side Wroxham. It’s a 280-mile round-trip to face a team knocking on the door of the Ryman League Division 1 North play-off places.

“It is not ideal and obviously not the best preparation but we will deal with it,” said Hawkins.

Tom Webb is out (foot) but Corey Holder should be available after an eye problem. Lewis Knight starts a two-game ban after picking up 10 cautions.
