Invicta Dynamos head to Streatham on Saturday and host Chelmsford Chieftains on Sunday in NIHL Division 1 South

Invicta Dynamos coach Karl Lennon is seeking a reaction from his men after last Sunday’s disappointment.

The Mos were beaten by the Oxford City Stars last time out but the task ahead of them this weekend is much bigger. They get a weekend of action under way with a trip to title-favourites Streatham on Saturday before facing the Chelmsford Chieftains in Gillingham on Sunday night.

Lennon said: “You are only as good as your last performance and that was bad, for us we have to put it behind us and move on to the weekend coming and I would hope for a reaction.

“I told the lads on Sunday (after the 7-2 defeat in Oxford) to be under no illusions, if you think that is going to be good enough in the future, against these teams coming up, then you have another thing coming, that’s not going to happen.

“They know that levels have to increase from last week, it could be a disaster for us if we show up this Saturday with the same attitude that we did on Sunday. That is something we have been trying to avoid. The commitment and performances haven’t been like that, they have been very solid, very focused, very hard working, and Sunday was the opposite of that, that was the biggest disappointment really.”

The Mos have enjoyed a solid start to 2023 and Lennon is appreciative of his team’s efforts this season, saying: “For me, the reaction has to be spot on this week. I look at things in isolation, the result on Sunday was bad, the performance was bad, but across the rest of the season it’s an anomaly and I hope it is just that. We need to be better, from start to finish.”

The Mos - who are battling for third place in NIHL Division 1 South - have yet to get one over league leaders and defending champions Streatham.

Lennon said: “They are on a good run of form and they will have a huge amount of confidence coming up against us and they are a threat, a really talented team with strength in depth. They’re not a top-of-the-table team for no reason, again if we go into it thinking we can just show up and that will be enough then we kidding ourselves, they will take advantage of that most definitely.”

Streatham had a big win against Slough last weekend - a side who beat the Dynamos 6-2 recently. “That just shows the standard of those guys,” Lennon added.

On Sunday the Mos meet Chelmsford for the final time in the regular league season - ahead of their Southern Cup final match next month. The Mos have the upper-hand - with a 6-3 win when they last met, at Planet Ice, Gillingham, which followed 6-3 and 6-5 victories at the Riverside earlier in the season.

Lennon expects the Chiefs to be in confident mood ahead of their visit.

He said: “They had a big win on the road on Sunday against Milton Keynes and they will take confidence from that performance I am sure and they will bring that to us.

“We had a great win against them the previous week and played really well.

“We have moved on from last week now and all we can control is how we behave and perform this coming week.”

*The first leg of Dynamos’ Southern Cup final against Chelmsford Chieftains will be in Gillingham, now confirmed for Saturday, March 25 (5.15pm). Tickets are expected to go on sale next week. The second leg in Essex takes place the following day, at 6pm.
