Goalscoring striker John Marquis couldn’t be happier.

The 22-year-old has been in a rich vein of form since arriving on loan from Millwall.

Tuesday’s winner against Peterborough was his fourth for the club in six outings.

He said: “I have always believed in myself and thought of myself as a goalscorer. It is about playing in the team that suits me and how I want to play.

“Things are going perfect for me at the moment. I just want the games to come thick and fast.”

Championship side Millwall have allowed Marquis to join the Gills for the rest of the season and he accepts his time with the Lions is over.

He said: “I wouldn’t say I have had a point to prove. It is easy when things aren’t going well and you’re playing for a team not doing well to get down and miserable.

“I’ve always believed that if I got fit and played in the team, things would go well."

He added: "I think my time at Millwall is done. I had a brief chat with the manager there and am not in his immediate plans."
