Gillingham captain Doug Loft is on crutches after challenge at Oldham but there is no break

Gillingham will be without their skipper for the next couple of weeks.

But the good news is that a scan on Monday showed that midfielder Doug has not fractured a bone following a crunching weekend tackle.

Loft limped off at Oldham after receiving a kick to the top of his foot while making a clearance. He remains on crutches.

“He will definitely be out this weekend,” confirmed Gills boss Justin Edinburgh.

“He had a scan on Monday and there is no fracture or break. We were slightly concerned. It is well swollen and we think it will be 10 days to two weeks before he is back in the fray.”

The Gills will also be without vice captain John Egan for the foreseeable future.

He received an injury following a training-ground tackle last week, which opened up his medial knee ligament.

“You can’t not train, so that was a blow,” said the Gills manager.
