Chairman Paul Scally is looking forward to seeing an attacking brand of football on show this season.

Gillingham have invested in youth and pace over the summer and, like many fans, Mr Scally can’t wait to see them strutting their stuff.

He said: “We have a small squad but it’s fit and it’s young and I am excited.

“Justin has got a good management team around him. He is a likeable guy, amiable with the fans, the staff and the players. He is organised and wants to play attacking football. It’s what people like to watch.

“Everyone wants to see the team go forward and score goals and try and win matches. That is what we are here for and what we will be trying to do.

“My role is a challenging role and if I don’t get some comfort out of it, then what’s the point of being here? The comfort I get is seeing the fans happy and seeing us win football matches.”

Gillingham’s start couldn’t be much harder as they face the League 1 title favourites Sheffield United.

“They are bringing almost 2,000 fans and there should be a good atmosphere,” said the chairman.

“Let’s hope we can get our season off to a good start. Pre-season has dragged a bit, games become tedious and somewhat pointless in my view but nonetheless, they have to be done.

“The players are in good shape and I am looking forward to seeing them start on Saturday.”
