Gillingham captain Josh Wright says boss Justin Edinburgh should be praised after side's revival continues

Josh Wright says it’s time for criticism of Gillingham manager Justin Edinburgh to stop.

Gills are only three points off the League 1 play-offs after beating Rochdale on Saturday – their third win in four games.

Skipper Wright believes they’ve turned a corner and that Edinburgh should be left to get on with his job.

Wright said: “I just think it shows what happens when you stick with a guy you know is going to be successful, has been successful, has got every attribute to be a top manager and shows it already in his early days.

“He’s been fantastic and he’s handled it absolutely fantastically, and that rubs off on us in that changing room.

“For me, he’s come through it now, he shouldn’t be getting criticised, he should only be getting praised. I’m sure the fans and the media and everyone will get behind him and show him support because we’re right behind him in there, and we’ll always remain behind him.”

Wright concedes how difficult it’s been at times this season but credits Edinburgh for their revival.

He added: “It’s been horrible. My missus will tell you, I’ve been a grumpy man through the week coming home after a game on a Saturday.

“It’s not just me, there’s a lot like that in the changing room and you take it home with you. But you have to remain positive, you have to remain strong and that’s what the gaffer has done and he’s put that into us as well.

“We’ve never lost faith in that changing room. We always believe we can get out of what we’re in and turn this form around. That’s exactly what we’ve done and are doing, and long may that continue.”
