The Shouting Men: Gillingham goalkeeper Stuart Nelson writes exclusively for the KM Group

I am delighted I have got the opportunity to play for this club again.

It is well documented I was made available in the summer but that’s all history now.

I couldn’t have worked any harder through the summer and if I was to leave this club it wasn’t going to be because I didn’t fight for my place.

I love being at this club and was proper choked up when I went up to the Rainham End for first game of the season.

The reception I got still makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end.

It was a different reception than I would normally get – it felt like it was a welcome back. I appreciate every fan that supports me.

I had got myself fit, started well and now I am playing. I am proud of myself for that.

A lot of credit has to go to goalkeeper coach Jimmy Walker and even Jason Brown, for the week he was here, because it was important I got off to a good start.

I am thriving on working with a goalkeeper coach day in, day out and I haven’t had that since Carl Muggleton left.

If you look at what happened inbetween, when Carl left and when Jimmy arrived, it has been a bit indifferent for me.

Up to that point and from that point it has been a lot better.

It is good to have someone who will tell you what you are doing well and what you are doing badly. It is League 1 and that is what you need.

I have got that now and when I have had it before I have thrived off it. It is evident in my performances now.
