Gillingham forward George Williams, on loan from Fulham, says he can replace injured 15-goal top scorer Bradley Dack

Gillingham’s loan recruit George Williams is confident he can be the man to fill Bradley Dack’s boots.

The Gills are awaiting news on how long 15-goal Dack will be sidelined with a hamstring injury after he limped off during Saturday’s 2-1 home defeat to Chesterfield.

Williams joined Gills on loan from Fulham earlier this month and is looking forward to making an impact after two substitute outings – starting with Tuesday night’s trip to Fleetwood in League 1.

“I am gutted for Brad,” said Williams. “If he is injured and there is a chance for me then I will do my best, and do what he has been doing throughout the whole of the season.

“I played that position on Saturday and feel comfortable doing it. I enjoyed it.

“It is a key role, especially when you play the diamond formation, like we play, being the point of it. That is the position that takes you from midfield to attack. Hopefully if I get the chance to play there again I will do a good job.

“I have come on at Oldham and played the majority of the game on Saturday. On Tuesday, I will be hoping to start.

“I am generally quite fit and work hard in training when I am not playing, to make sure I keep up my fitness levels so that when I do get a chance I am ready.”
