Rachael Burford has been named in the squad to compete at the Rugby World Cup Sevens next week.

The 26-year-old centre, from Medway, has been a regular member of the national women’s sevens squad and will now feature in the sport’s biggest tournament.

She is one of 12 women to have been selected by head coach Barry Maddocks.

England start with a match against France on Saturday, June 29 and also face Japan and newly crowned European champions Russia in their pool.

Burford, who plays for Thurrock, was recently representing England at the European Sevens Series in Brive.

She is also a member of the full England rugby team and is chasing a place in their France 2014 World Cup squad.
