Gillingham captain Josh Wright says the players are hurting as much as the fans

Josh Wright admits Gillingham’s run of form has turned him into Mr Angry.

The Gills skipper isn’t able to turn off his emotions at home and Wright is as keen as anyone to see the club’s form turn.

He said: “I’m a winner and it’s killing me at the moment where we are not winning games or picking up results where we should do.

“I am not the same person at football and not the same away from football because of it. I am an emotional person and I want to win all the time.

“I can be angry and on a Saturday, a Sunday or a Wednesday after a defeat I am down. I am trying to stay upbeat and trying to be happy."

Fans reacted angrily to last Saturday’s defeat against League 1 bottom club Oldham – Gills losing 2-1 after taking an early lead.

Wright accepts the criticism and is desperate to turn the jeers into cheers.

He said: “Saturday was so frustrating. We were in control and it felt comfortable and I couldn’t see us not winning the game, let alone losing.

“We weren’t trying to hold onto 1-0 or seeing out a 1-1, we just couldn’t find our way.

“We are all in it for the same thing, we all want to win, we want to succeed and whether that’s a player, staff, manager or fans, whatever it is at the club everyone wants the same outcome. They are hurting and so are we."
