Television sitcom writer Carla Lane has opened a new charity shop in Tenterden.

The animal rights campaigner, who is famous for writing Bread and The Liver Birds, officially opened the Cats Protection shop in the High Street.

She was joined by branch co-ordinator Marjorie Gay and mayor of Tenterden, Cllr John Weller and his partner Carol Douglas, as well as many guests.

Ms Lane runs her own sanctuary, Animaline, in West Sussex.

The new shop opens 10am to 4.30pm Tuesday to Saturday and is looking for volunteers and for donations of clothing, books, toys and costume jewellery.
