One lucky quiz participant will be walking away with a gift set worth in excess of £100 donated by Scalextric distributor Hornby.

The set will be given away as a prize for a charity raffle at the event. And for anyone who may have moved on from train sets and miniature cars - and with less than 100 sleeps now left until December 25 - the set would fit perfectly under a Christmas tree.

Quiz coordinator Dominic Comins expressed gratitude to Hornby for its continued support for the event.

He said: “Once again, Hornby has donated a wonderful prize for the Big Quiz charity raffle.

“Hornby’s sets have delighted generations of children – myself and my son included – and anyone who signs up for the quiz stands a chance of taking some of them home with them.

“They will also know that they have helped raise much-needed funds for some really important good causes.”

The proceeds of the raffle will be match-funded by Barclays bank, whose staff will also run a fundraising bar stocked with drinks provided by brewer Shepherd Neame.

The quiz takes place at Maidstone Leisure Centre on Friday, November 8, and will raise money for the Kent Messenger’s charity of the year – Royal British Legion Industries – as well as KM Charity Team’s literacy and green travel projects with schools.

A prize draw will also see a charity entering at least one quiz team taking a share of the proceeds, which could be up to £1,000.

In addition to the raffle, there will be prizes on offer for the top team taking part from the NHS and caring organisations, the top local government or schools team, and the top team from any organisation that enters three teams or more.

Besides Hornby, Barclays and Shepherd Neame, the quiz is supported by Office Angels, Specsavers and IMP Studio & Live.

The entry price for an eight-person team is £65 per team, but there is a £10 discount when you book online using the code KMNEWS19.
