Team ‘Abseil-utely Bonkers’ will be taking the plunge from Miller House in Maidstone town centre on Mothers’ Day – this Sunday, March 15 - to raise funds for Canterbury Housing Advice Centre (CHAC).

Friends, family, well wishers and shoppers are welcome to watch the abseil challenge, organised by the KM Charity Team, as 100 brave souls go over the edge for good causes across Kent.

CHAC is chaired by Nick Jackson, a senior law lecturer at the School, and works to prevent homelessness in Canterbury, Whitstable and Herne Bay.

The charity has suffered major funding cuts and urgently needs to raise more than £40,000 in 2015 to continue meeting demand for its services.

Professor Didi Herman, who will beat the drop on Sunday, said: “I am very happy to support this local charity doing important work in our community and with which the School already has established links. Please donate, if you can, to raise funds to keep Canterbury Housing Advice Centre open.”

Fellow team member Amy Brown, who is also a volunteer with Canterbury Homeless Outreach, said: “Homelessness in Kent is growing but it is something we can stop; we can also stop the devastating stereotypes believed by the public.

“I believe raising money for CHAC, and in turn the homeless people of Canterbury, is a great cause. If I have to jump off a building to prove it, then so be it!”
