The initiative sets pupils inter-class and inter-school challenges with Falcon class being named top for home reading at the first Reading Class of the Week Awards.

Class teacher Miss Mills said “As a school we are very excited about our reading journey with Buster’s Book Club and the opportunities it will provide the children. We have been involving the children in the creation of our Buster Book club display as a kick start for this reading scheme. They are very excited about ‘Buster’ as a character and hopefully this will only support us in engaging them to read.”

More than 26,000 children and families are using the successful home reading initiative in 2017.

Simon Dolby from the KM Charity Team said: “With so many classes competing this was always going to be a tough challenge to win. Everyone involved with Buster’s Book Club is delighted at the improved levels of home reading the initiative has delivered and for Hersden Primary to win is quite an achievement.”

The initiative is supported by Kent County Council, Medway Council, Kent Libraries, 3Rs teacher recruitment, Kent Reliance, Specsavers, Bel UK, Orbit housing association and Golding Homes
