Medway's record breaking KM Big Charity Quiz celebrated its 10th anniversary on Friday night.

The event attracted 32 teams of eight quiz-goers and raised in excess of £7,000 for good causes.

Medway Youth Trust, the Medway Messenger's Charity of the Year, will share the charity pot with green travel, road safety and literacy initiatives used in the county's primary schools.

The anniversary wine and wisdom was won by Medway-based Supernova who secured a seven point lead of a trio of teams tied in second place.

Medway Mail and Female and Rochester-located City Strollers joined Sittingbourne-based Scumbag University in second place.

All four teams have earned their place at the county final due to be staged in January 2017 when the teams will take on the top placed teams from the Canterbury, Maidstone and Ashford heats of the KM Big Charity Quiz staged this year.

Questionmaster Simon Dolby praised the support of Shepherd Neame and Barclays bank for their backing. He said: "Both Sheps and Barclays play a huge role in helping to ensure the big quiz is successful and all the team are extremely grateful."

Event supporters included Qube Recruitment, Barclays, Specsavers, Shepherd Neame, Subway and Independent Music Productions.

Mr Dolby added: "We hope to announce the final figure raised in the coming week, but at this stage it is in excess of £7,000 and could even be as high as £8,000 once all the expenses and remaining pledges of income are in."
