Spanish car maker Seat has injected some added sparkle into its Ibiza compact hatch, with the announcement of a new FR Edition variant.

Borrowing a trick 1.4-litre petrol engine from Volkswagen, this new model boasts clever cylinder cut-off technology to save fuel and reduce emissions. During periods of low demand, the engine switches from four to two cylinders – technology that’s now appearing on Volkswagen, Audi and even Bentley models.

Replacing the previous 150 horsepower FR, this new 140 horsepower model remains a brisk performer as it’ll sprint to 62mp in 7.8 seconds. It’ll also save you money thanks to its 60.1mpg and 109g/km economy rating.

Alongside the regular FR, Edition models gain red seatbelts, red brake calipers, titanium-coloured 17-inch alloy wheels, matching coloured door mirrors, climate control and dark tinted rear windows.

On sale now in both three and five-door guise, prices start at £15,320, with a £600 premium for the higher specification Edition models.
