Firefighters’ warning after tumble dryer blaze injures duo in Romney Marsh

Firefighters have sounded the alarm after a tumble dryer went up in flames injuring two people.

The duo were treated for shock and smoke inhalation after the appliance caught alight and set fire to a garage in Romney Marsh.

Firefighters were alerted to Lade Fort Crescent, Lydd-on-Sea, Romney Marsh, at about 7.50pm as the flames took hold.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said: “It’s believed the fire started accidentally when a tumble dryer caught alight, possibly due to a fault.

“People are reminded to check white goods are in good working order before use, follow manufacturer’s guidelines, and to register electrical appliances for any product recalls. “

Three fire engines attended and crews wearing breathing apparatus put out the flames using hose reel jets.

They were at the scene for less than an hour.
