Two fire engines, from the Dymchurch and Ashford station were called out and left the scene just after 2.16pm.

District and town councillor Len Laws, who lives nearby, said: “There were three to four ambulances and two fire engines at the scene as well as police.

“Tailbacks were building up and cars were using my drive to turn around.”

The accident was just north of the railway line and its hump back bridge on the edge of town.

Romney Road is one of the three main entrances into the town along with Jury’s Gap Road and Dungeness Road and Cllr Laws said that all three are accident blackspots.

While the cause of this incident is not yet known Cllr Laws said that there is a general problem of speeding on these route.

He says he will bring it up at the next Lydd Town Council meeting on August 3.
