Lydd Town boss Mickey Doyle on new signing Jarred Trespaderne

New signing Jarred Trespaderne is ready to deliver at Lydd Town.

Midfielder Trespaderne has dropped two levels from Isthmian South East Ashford to join the Lydders’ Southern Counties East Division 1 promotion challenge.

The former Hythe man should prove a big asset for third-placed Town as they battle favourites Snodland and Larkfield & New Hythe - the two sides above them - for the title.

“He wasn’t getting the game time at Ashford,” said Lydd boss Mickey Doyle.

“He knows a lot of the lads here, he works with a lot of the lads and he wanted to come over.

“I had a good chat with him. He wants to be one of the main players and he wants to start enjoying his football again.”

Trespaderne completes a hat-trick of recent additions at the Lindsey Field, with striker Richard Atkins and Timmy Babington joining before Christmas.

Doyle hailed Atkins as his fox in the box after landing the ex-Folkestone and Whitstable frontman and he continues to impress.

“He’s looked lively, he’s a great asset,” said Doyle.

“He’s good in the dressing room and he sets a good example for everyone to follow.

“When we do our fitness challenges he does extra and he’ll put on the chat, ‘Come on, lads, this is what I’ve done’ and it’s a wake-up call for the other boys.

“He’s showing them the way. That’s what you want from your experienced players.”

Babington, whose former clubs include Sittingbourne and Canterbury, gives Lydd another dimension in attack.

He has pace to burn, can beat a man and he knows where the goal is, as shown by his double in the 3-2 New Year defeat by Greenways.

“We approached him,” said Doyle.

“We were after a winger and he’s bought in to what we want to do. He’s a really good signing for us.

“With the three we’ve brought in, I think we’re there squad-wise.”

Lydd remain three points off the top after beating Forest Hill Park 2-0 last weekend.

Tyler Sterling broke the deadlock just after the break and Craig Calvert added a late second as Lydd bounced back from the Greenways loss.

“We had a decent chat after Greenways and worked on things at training,” said Doyle.

“We controlled the game on Saturday. Forest Hill had the wind with them in the first half but I think they only got in our half four or five times.

“Second half, we got the penalty that Tyler put top bins.

“We kept the pressure on, it was just the final ball that let us down, but then we got another one off a set-play from Calvert.”

Lydd, beaten 4-2 at home by Staplehurst in the Challenge Cup on Wednesday night, visit AFC Whyteleafe on Saturday (3pm).
