Poem plea to give three-legged dog Meli from Sandwich a new home this Valentine's

A three-legged dog who was beaten by her first owner has written a Valentine’s poem in a desperate bid to find somebody to love her.

American bulldog-cross Meli was just 17-weeks when she had to have her front leg and shoulder removed as a result of cruel abuse.

While other pups have come and gone at rescue charity Futures for Dogs in Sandwich, 14-month-old Meli has remained.

Volunteer Mandy Samuel said: “We are desperate to get poor Meli a home. She has been with us since June last year. It’s so sad because she is such a lovely dog.

“She is so funny when she tries to pretend she is a lap dog and surprises people by trying to sit on them for cuddles.

“She is patiently waiting for the love of her life to come along. Could you be her Valentine?”

There will be a chance to meet Meli at tomorrow's (Saturday) Bits and Bobs Fair at the Guildhall in Sandwich from 9am to 3pm.

Futures for Dogs will be the meeting room and on the forecourt with Valentine’s treats as well as talking about their homing and fostering procedures.
