Rural broadband providers Gigaclear shoot advert in Shoreham village, Sevenoaks

An “astronaut” has been seen roaming around a picturesque village installing people’s broadband.

Shoreham in Sevenoaks has been invaded this week by film crews shooting an advert for wifi providers Gigaclear.

Using the village hall as their base, crews took over parts of the streets and people’s houses.

Ralph Abbott’s home was one of them. He said: “It was good fun. I had about 20 to 30 people in the house filming all around my house. It was quite exciting.

“There has been a lot of excitement in the village. We have had a spaceman move into the village with sheep and hens on the loose.

“The people from the film crew were overwhelming made welcome.

“It was filmed right in the heart of the village so there was a bit of traffic chaos but everyone survived. The good will it created far out weighed it.”

A letter issued to residents said the advert would feature a hero character walking through the streets and, in one scene, being stopped by a herd of sheep, as people were invited to come and watch the action.

Advertising agents Brave Spark were filming in the village on behalf of the company, which specialises in bringing full fibre broadband to rural areas, from May 31 to June 2.
