Climbing rose proved to be pick of the bunch at Ightham Mote, near Sevenoaks

A climbing rose has proved to be the pick of the bunch at Ightham Mote.

Earlier in the year participants were asked to select their favourite items from the fourteenth-century manor house. Information sheets about the items and reasons for choosing them were displayed around the property.

Visitors in May were then asked to choose their favourite from this list.

The favourite item was the ‘Zephirine Drouhin’ rose around the Outer Hall courtyard doorway, followed closely by the cascade on the North garden.

Sam Bentley, senior conservation assistant at Ightham Mote said: “We had a really good response for our May’s favourite item activity. There were also some lovely comments from our visitors on the voting slips."

The event will be repeated in September.
