Flood alerts issued by Environment Agency for Rivers Eden, Eden Brook, Upper River Medway and Upper River Stour as heavy rain expected

Flood alerts have been issued for parts of Kent due to heavy rain expected overnight.

The Environment Agency is concerned about land around the Rivers Eden, Eden Brook and Kent Ditch from Blindley Heath to Penshurst including Edenbridge and Hever.

An alert is also in force on the River Medway from Forest Row to Penshurst, including Ashurst.

There are also concerns about communities on the Great Stour from Charing Heath to the A2070 including Ashford, along with people living near the East Stour and along the Whitewater and Ruckinge Dykes and the Aylesford Stream.

Experts expect river levels to rise throughout Sunday evening and during Monday as a result of the bad weather.

While flooding could affect low lying land and roads from around 5am tomorrow, it’s not thought any properties will be affected.

The heavy rainfall is expected to continue throughout Monday but should clear on Tuesday morning.

Officials say they are closely monitoring rainfall and river levels and are checking rivers for blockages in the area.

There advice is to avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and not to try to walk or drive through flood water.
