It states: "Sevenoaks was the first school in England to go all-IB and the results are astonishingly good, with nine pupils achieving the maximum 45 points last year.

"Based on these and similarly sparkling GCSE results, it was the top-performing co-ed independent in last year's Sunday Times survey.

"The enormously clever and well-liked head, Katy Ricks, has come up with a Sevenoaks School Certificate (externally moderated) to replace English literature GCSE.

"It's a top-heavy school (over 400 of the thousand or so pupils are in the sixth form) and a truly global community (about a third of pupils board)."

It claims it is not a school for slackers, and directs readers to a list of pupil achievements including a prize in a Norwegian contest for young scientists, an RAF flying scholarship and a highly commended entry in a Cambridge University essay competition.

"There is great sport in lovely surroundings - endless grounds bordering Knole Park. A fabulous performing arts centre too (eat your heart out, Barbican).

"There can't be many connections between Plum Sykes and the late Clive Dunn, but they both happen to be Old Sennockians - check out the sweet picture of him on the school website, playing a court page in 1933," the guide adds.

This is the 10th year Tatler has produced the guide to the best schools which is broken down regionally.
