Jake Townsend, 18, of Davis Close, Sevenoaks, guilty of two counts of grievous bodily harm outside a party in Holyoake Terrace

A teenager who slashed two people with a broken bottle after being refused entry to a party has admitted causing grievous bodily harm.

Jake Townsend, 18, of Davis Close, Sevenoaks, left a woman needing surgery to her hand and cut a man’s neck in the attack, on June 20 last year.

Maidstone Crown Court this week heard how he confronted the revellers in Holyoake Terrace at around 11.20pm, after being turned away several times while demanding to see one of the invited guests.

He thrust the weapon in the direction of the man's neck, causing a small cut, but caused long-lasting damage to a woman's hand after she tried to push her friend out of the way.

Townsend pleaded guilty of two counts of grievous bodily harm.

Detective sergeant Richard Pringle said: "This was an unprovoked attack by an immature offender who went out that evening intent on causing someone serious harm.

"One of Townsend’s victims required surgery to repair the tendons in her hand, which was so badly injured that she may suffer long-lasting problems with movement and dexterity.

"I would like to thank her and the other witnesses to the attack, who were able to provide vital evidence leading to Townsend’s arrest."

He is due to be sentenced on Monday, April 13.
