Fundraisers who contributed to a boat yard’s new look were thanked at a grand opening.

Queenborough Rowing Club has been working for the past 18 months to transform the former eyesore, in North Road, in memory of its former treasurer Jennie Ronan.

It has been landscaped to require low maintenance.

A plaque has been put up in honour of Mrs Ronan, who was at one time the town’s Mayoress, that says “rower and friend”.

Those who helped raise the estimated £2,000 spent on the new look were invited to the event on Monday as a thank-you.

Queenborough Fisheries Trust, Queenborough Town Council, Swale council and local borough councillors Peter Marchington and Mick and Jackie Constable all helped towards the cost.

Jennie’s husband Alan Ronan also attended with their daughter and grandchildren.

Daf Charman, the club’s treasurer of Queenborough Rowing Club, said: “It was such a beautiful day and we had quite a few people turn up.

“The boat yard was an absolutely incredible mess before and now it is extremely nice.

“I think it is a simple tribute which is all Jennie would have wanted, It was one of her thoughts to have it maintenance free and we have done that.”
