Generous students have donated money raised at a fashion show to help transform a heritage centre.

Pupils at Canterbury College Swale Campus, in Sheerness, held the event in April as part of an open day to showcase what they have on offer.

There was also a cupcake sale and raffle which along with entry fees raised £139.73.

They decided to donate the money to the Blue Town Heritage Centre which will put it towards the education hub they are creating.

Owner Jenny Hurkett says they still need to raise around £5,000 but they are well on the way to transforming the upstairs of the building in the High Street into a replica of the deck of HMS Victory.

There will also be education equipment with the idea is for school groups to go on trips and have fun re-enacting battle scenes to help their learning.

The retail students presented Mrs Hurkett with a cheque at the college in Bridge Road on Wednesday.

“I would like to say a big thank you to the students. “It’s so lovely they care about their community,” she said.

“We will soon be starting work experience here so it’s good to have the links with the college. The Island should be proud of the students.”
