Jordan Skinner wins final of Oasis Academy Isle of Sheppey's The Apprentice 2015

Judges said “you’re hired” to Jordan Skinner as he beat fierce competition to win Oasis Academy Isle of Sheppey’s The Apprentice.

The last four candidates were sent into Sheerness on Thursday on a scavenger hunt for Sheppey Age UK with a list that included prune juice, echinacea, a Mills and Boon book, hard-boiled sweets, a puzzle and Steradent.

They each had a budget of £20 and an hour to get as many of the items as they could with some worth more points than others.

Belle Peck managed to buy eight items for a total of 16 points, Dane Blackstock bought 13 and scored 14 points, while Paige Ashby-Clark bought 13 items worth 22 points and Jordan Skinner bought 15 and scored 23.

The goods will be sold on a stall at a Sheppey Age UK fair on Saturday August 1, to raise money for the Trinity Road, Sheerness, site.

The final judging session took place in the lecture theatre at the west site in Marine Parade, Sheerness, on Friday and featured a video compilation of clips from the challenges over the past few weeks.

Joining Cllr Ken Pugh, businesswoman Michelle Gobbi and Mike Brown, of Sheppey Matters, on the judging panel were MP Gordon Henderson and Liz Haggart of Sheppey Age UK.

The judges agreed this year’s competition saw the best crop of candidates in the contest’s five-year history.

First place and £250 went to Jordan while Paige, Dane and Belle came second, third and fourth with £125, £75 and £50 prizes respectively.

All four are also to go to the Houses of Parliament for tea with Mr Henderson.

Cllr Pugh said: “On balance Jordan has come out as first because of his increasing development.

“As things were looking as though they were going bad he took real control and came out fighting.”

A cheque for £865, raised over the course of the contest, was handed to Age UK, while a further £100 will go to Blue Town Heritage Centre.

Jordan, who said he might like to go into marketing one day, was pleased to have won and said: “It was hard at some points, but at the end I got more confident.”
