Sheppey: Man luring children into bushes at Minster play park

Parents have been warned to be on their guard after reports of a suspicious man seen luring children into bushes at a play park.

A man has been seen on at least two occasions in the Lovell Road area of Minster, prompting calls for CCTV to be installed.

Speaking about the first incident, a mum, who did not want to be named but who lives near the play area, said: "There was a man in his late 40s or early 50s who was trying to take pictures of children.

"He made out a ball was in the bushes and asked a seven-year-old and a nine-year-old if they needed to go to the toilet and walked them further into the bushes.

"Then he got his phone out to take pictures.

"The kids ran out the bush screaming and he ran away."

She added: "Parents should be aware of this and make sure they don't let their children out of their sight.

"All the parents here want a CCTV camera installed for the safety of our children and to keep an eye on the teenagers who cause a nuisance every weekend."

Grandparents of the children were said to have reported the matter to police but had heard no more.

This week, a man described as tall and wearing coloured trainers and a grey hoodie, similar to the man in the first incident, which happened about two weeks ago, was said to have approached children.

Police were unable to confirm the sighting.
