Motorcyclist, 20, dies after crash

A MOTORCYCLIST died after his machine hit a lamppost on Sheppey. The 20-year-old, from Edenbridge Drive, Sheerness, was riding along Broadway towards Minster when the accident happened outside the Seaview Hotel at about 6.30pm on Thursday.

A Kent police spokeswoman said it is believed the rider was overtaking another vehicle when he lost control, hit the kerb and then a lamppost.

He was taken to Medway accident and emergency centre suffering from head, chest and forearm injuries. He died about two hours later.

Police want to speak to the driver of a red car, travelling towards Sheerness town centre, who may have had to swerve to avoid the motorcyclist. Anyone with information is asked to call PC Colin Port on 01795 477055.
