No trains between Sittingbourne and Sheerness due to problem with Kingsferry Bridge

Services came to a standstill between Sittingbourne and Sheerness this afternoon due to a problem with the Kingsferry Bridge.

Network Rail teams were called on site to resolve the issue with the river bridge, which meant all trains were unable to run between the two stations.

A spokesman for Southeastern said the bridge went up to let a boat pass through but as it came back down, it did not properly align with the railway track.

Replacement buses were set up throughout the afternoon and all services were back up and running by 2pm.
