Sheppey crossing reopens after crash and broken-down vehicle

The Sheppey Crossing has reopened after an earlier crash.

The bridge was shut north-bound after the accident at the Iwade turning.

A broken down Arriva van between the Iwade/Kemsley turn-off and the Leysdown turn-off also caused delays.

At one point, tailbacks on the A249 stretched back to the B2206 Bobbing roundabout.

It is believed a black Volkswagen Beetle crashed into the central reservation near the Iwade turn-off at around 12.30pm.

Police staged a rolling road block while the scene was being cleared, causing minor traffic delays.

The driver escaped without injury.

Police shut the crossing while they dealt with the collision, but the road was clear by 2.20pm.
