Youngsters who are learning the ropes of radio have had a look round the KM Group’s kmfm studios.

The four trainees, Jade Charles, Sian Adams, Jamie Long and Keani Dawkins, have been taught about the industry at Sheppey FM, based in Sheerness.

As well as gaining relevant skills, they will also achieve a bronze award once they finish.

They are being taught by Travis Illsley, whose community internet radio training project is funded by the charity Vinspired, which aims to help and promote youth volunteering.

Part of the training involves a visit to a radio station and they chose to go to kmfm, based at our Medway office.

They met breakfast presenter Rob Wills who showed them round and explained how it works.

To complete the course, the students have to produce an advert about Vinspired so they were also given a tour of the production studio.

Travis said: “Rob explained a lot about radio and his career path in radio.

“He inspired the students and that’s what I wanted – for them to hear it from another voice.

“The students said they would now like to further their experiences and apply to university to study media.”
