Live music, football and an adult bouncy castle were just some of the highlights of a fun day held for people with disabilities to showcase their talents.

Let it Shine, which was organised by Swale District Partnership Group (SDPG), took place at Restoration Youth, Trinity Road, Sheerness, last Tuesday.

The group aims to get various organisations together within the community to support those with handicaps and the event was held to mark Learning Disability Week.

There were lots of displays put on including belly dancing, a table of Status Quo memorabilia, Lego models, an Egyptian stall and photos taken by members of the Crawford Centre in Sheerness.

Firefighters from Sheppey were there with the engine for people to look round.

The Midnight Crazees and Mencap Movers, both groups from within East Kent Mencap, performed.

Organisations including Skillnet, Blossoms, Casa Support and Swale Women Empowering Women were also there to give information and advice as well as care agencies and Kent County Council.

Organiser Caz White, SDPG valuing people worker, said: “It was a really good day – we all had lots of fun and met all sorts of different people.

“I’d like to thank everyone that participated, all the people who cleared up afterwards and everyone who helped clear the space beforehand.

“I’d also like to say a big thank you to Sheppey FM for their help with the sound and for using their equipment and making it happen.”
