Thieves steal Christmas trees planted in ashes of former presenters at Sheppey FM

Staff and presenters at a radio station were left shocked after yobs stole two Christmas trees which had been planted in the ashes of two former presenters.

Three thieves with torches were caught on CCTV at the Sheppey FM 92.2 station. One can clearly be seen plucking one of the trees from out of its tub.

Stunned station boss Julie Nicholls said: “The trees commemorated two of our presenters who sadly passed away.

“Their ashes were scattered around the trees. We are all shocked and disgusted and their families are very upset.”

In a Facebook post she added: “We hope their spirits haunt the yobs for their sacrilegious act.”

The theft happened at about 6pm on Sunday, outside the Media Centre next to the Sheppey Leisure Centre in Sheerness.

Dawn Cockburn, who runs the Harmony Therapy Trust next door and also presents a show on the community station, said: “I’ve seen some mean things but this is appalling.

“Our Media Centre gives so much and two of our late but much-valued presenters were honoured. If anyone is offered a tree out of the blue then if you have any decency you should name and shame these people.”

The ashes are of presenters Chris Luck and Barry Goodsell.
