Toothbrushes, toy soldiers and fake false teeth were among items collected during a clean-up at Garrison Point.

Monday’s mission was part of a nationwide Beachwatch campaign organised by the Marine Conservation Society to highlight litter issues around the UK’s coastline.

Twelve people, made up of volunteers and Swale council staff, collected 23 sacks of rubbish from the Sheerness tidy-up.

As well as the more bizarre objects recovered, an abundance of fishing wire, plastic lids and some disposable barbecues were bagged-up.

Ian Arnell, the council’s seafront officer who led the operation, said: “Twenty three bags is a decent haul from a successful morning’s work.

“We’re looking to hold similar clean-up events like this in the future.

“In the meantime, I’d like to thank everyone who took part in this week’s activity.”
