Sheppey’s preparations for the new season have been blighted by injuries.

Boss Ernie Batten described the situation as "incredible" as 14 of his players have encountered problems.

High-profile signings Bradley Spice and James Everitt could be missing for the opening weeks of the season, while skipper John Ralph and first-choice keeper Lewis Craddock are also on the injury list.

Batten said: "Pre-season has been quite disrupted by injuries. We’ve had an unprecedented amount and it’s been incredible. I’ve never known anything like it.

"We’ve had injuries ranging from a broken jaw to serious ankle ligament damage. It’s been crazy. It’s been difficult to put something together for the new season."

Former Folkestone striker Everitt injured his back at work, while Spice suffered an injury after falling down a pot-hole.

Craddock tore a thigh muscle taking a goal-kick and, with their reserve keeper also injured, the Ites have brought in Robin Woodard from Dartford’s academy.
