Having your looks compared to your pet’s may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but an owner and K9 look-alike competition went down a storm at a novelty dog show.

A total of 18 people put themselves and their mutts forward for the category when the fundraiser was held at the Memorial Hall, School Lane, Lower Halstow, on Saturday.

First place was awarded to Mark and his Labrador Ruby, second place went to Jackie and her Alsatian Leah and third to Pam and her terrier Harvey.

There were four other categories: fancy dress - won by Hannah and her Jack Russell Millie Mulford; prettiest bitch - which went to Kerry and her Shih Tzu Summer; most handsome dog - given to James and his beagle Sidney and happiest dog - awarded to Tanya and her Labrador Honey.

The Best in Show cup was presented to Sidney and reserve went to Ruby.

Judging was carried out by Keith Howard-Challis and his wife Kay organised the event in aid of the village’s over-60s’ Christmas tea party.

She said: “The dog show went very well. We had 41 entries in total which we were thrilled about.”
