A group of Sittingbourne fundraisers are hoping to discover where there’s muck, there’s charitable brass.

Nine members of Snap 24/7 Fitness Centre, St Michael’s Road, took part in the Tough Mudder challenge in Winchester.

The 12-mile extreme obstacle course, designed by former special forces soldiers, involved teams getting electrocuted, crawling through thick mud and being submerged in tanks of ice cold water.

The Snap representatives, who were sponsored by the centre, suffered cuts and bruises during the three-hour challenge, which left them drenched and caked in mud. Their pain earned a £700 gain for the Get Well Soon Winnie appeal.

Two-year-old Winnie Martin, who has Down’s syndrome, has been diagnosed with leukaemia and a campaign has been launched to send her to Disneyland.

Tony Hayre, Snap’s team captain, said the punishing exercise was one he and his colleagues will never forget.

He said: “The achievement of pushing ourselves to the limit was enjoyable, but hard. The team is already planning to take on Tough Mudder again next year with some new recruits.”
