Sittingbourne library lurched into future with app for children

More than a dozen youngsters went to Sittingbourne library last week to test out a new phone app and enjoy a special story time session.

The Library Treasures application allows children to unlock games by posting reviews of books they have borrowed.

Last Wednesday young visitors enjoyed a lively telling of the book Corgi Cakes.

After they had finished the book the children were able to play an interactive game based on the dog-themed book.

So far, there are seven different games which can be played using the app.

They can be accessed anywhere but users only have a limited number of lives which can only be bought using virtual coins.

Youngsters can collect the coins, or “treasure”, by returning to the library and looking for clues to find them.

Librarian Jenny House said of the app: “It aims to encourage children to return to the library to show us their reviews of books.

“It is reminding children that the library is a great place to come for a wider range of books and the app is a nice incentive to get them to come back.

“Its also good preparation for the summer reading challenge, where they review six books over their holiday.”

The Treasures app can be downloaded for free from the App Store or Google Play.
