Barn badly damaged in fire

A fire tore through five tones of cardboard and packing material at a barn over night.

Six pumps were called to a barn in Hills Court Road in Ash, near Sandwich, at 9.16pm last night, where a 15m by 40m barn was ablaze.

Five jet pumps and one aerial ladder were used to tackle the flames, which severely damaged the barn and packing materials inside.

Two articulated trailers were also badly damaged by radiated heat.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze by 1.11am, but two pumps remain on site today for safety.

No one was injured in the incident.
