Bike gift cheers victim of theft

by Hayley Robinson

A kind-heareted reader has donated a mountain bike to a young boy whose two bicycles were stolen.

Lee Gilchrist, 11, was left devastated after his limited edition Chopper bike and BMX were taken from the family home in Merleburgh Drive, Milton Regis, on Sunday, August 21.

Lesley Stokes, of Honesty Close, Rodmersham, contacted the Sittingbourne Messenger offering Lee her son’s bike and delivered it to Lee on Saturday.

She said: "My 13-year-old son Steven had outgrown it. We wanted to pass it on after reading the story in the paper."

Lee’s mum Claire, whose own mountain bike was also taken the day before her son’s, said: "I would like to thank Lesley and her family. Lee is very happy with the bike and it means he can now get to and from school."
