Motorists suffered delays after a crash on a notorious stretch of the M2.

Witnesses said a car appeared to have gone off the motorway between junction 5 for Sittingbourne and junction 6 for Faversham.

It happened at around 6.15pm, closing a lane of the carriageway, which caused huge queues of traffic to build up on the A249.

An ambulance was spotted at the scene, but it is not known if anyone was injured.

The road fully reopened just before 7pm.
