Peugeot gutted by fire on A249 between Stockbury and Key Street, Sittingbourne

03 February 2014
by Sittingbourne reporter

A motorist had a lucky escape when their vehicle went up in flames during one of the busiest parts of the week.

Firefighters were called to Sittingbourne-bound carriageway of the A249 between Stockbury roundabout and Key Street just before 5.30pm on Friday.

The driver of the green Peugeot was out on arrival. Crews wore breathing apparatus and used a hose reel and foam to tackle the blaze.

The carriageway was closed to traffic until 6.06pm. The cause is being put down to a fault with the fuel system.

This footage was filmed by Highsted Grammar School for Girls' pupil, Sian Adeyemi, who was a passenger in a vehicle driving past the the scene on the Maidstone-bound carriageway.
