Firefighters tackle standing corn fire in Sittingbourne

Six fire engines have been tackling a standing corn field fire.

Crews were called to Yelstead Road in Sittingbourne at 6.40pm this evening.

Around 10 acres of standing corn was destroyed in fields near Fimbury Lane and Yelsted Lane, Stockbury.

It comes after Kent Fire and Rescue Service's Emergency Control Centre received a number of 999 calls reporting the fire.

Around 25 firefighters and six fire engines were initially sent to tackle the blaze, but this was reduced, and the fire was brought under control by around 8.15pm.
