Sheerness lifeboat rescues wildfowler at Iwade

A wildfowler and his two dogs had to be rescued by lifeboat after being cut off by the tide near Iwade.

The Sheerness inshore lifeboat Buster was launched yesterday just after noon after Coastguards received a call from the man who was trapped at Funton Creek on the River Medway.

The crew found the man and his dogs stuck on a mudbank 300 metres from the shore at Raspberry Hill near Iwade exposed to force 7 westerly winds and with the tide still rising.

RNLI spokesman Vic Booth said: “The man and his dogs were taken on board the inshore lifeboat and landed safely ashore where the Sheppey Coastguard Rescue team was waiting.”

No medical assistance was needed.

The lifeboat was back on station at 1.22pm.
