Matt Green brought back to Kent after missing from Sittingbourne home and turning up in Spain

A man who went missing from his Kent home for six years has been brought back from Spain after being reunited with his parents.

Matt Green's disappearance sparked a major police search, with his parents fighting for information that would help get them in touch with him.

Then, last month, in a dramatic twist, it was revealed he was in Spain, seriously ill in a psychiatric unit.

His parents, Jim and Pauline Green, flew out to see the 32-year-old, who initially refused to meet them.

He was said to be suffering from psychosis, and it was revealed he had years earlier being wrongly accused of rape.

The meeting led to Jim and Pauline mounting a campaign to bring back Matt for treatment in the UK.

Now his mother has announced he has returned home.

In a moving Facebook message, Pauline said: "Matt was brought back to the UK last week and is now being cared for in hospital and is receiving the treatment he requires.

"He is still very very poorly and it is going to take a long time until he is well enough to come home, and that's of course if he wants to do that.

"Again that is a long way off, it is all baby steps at the moment but we will get there no matter how long it takes."

She thanked all who helped raise cash to bring him home through a gofundme campaign.
